Saline/contact lens solution in carryon? TSA website says up to 4oz ok - any experiences?
The TSA website says saline/contact lens solution up to 4oz for personal use is o.k. in carryon. Has anyone had experience with this?

I've taken mine aboard several times w/no problem. For ease of security, I typically keep mine in a plastic bag, on an outside pocket, as I always carry-on.

No experience since the new rules have been out but this is good news. I often start long flights with my contacts and then switch to glasses.

My husband had to make a quick trip to Kalispell, MT a couple weeks ago. He threw in his not full, 8 oz bottle of contact lens solution in his carry on, and got through LAX security just fine, as well as the stopover airport in SLC. On the return trip a few days later, the small airport in Mt. took his bottle away.

I had no problem w/ 4 oz saline and small eye drops.

I have brought a 4 oz bottle of multi-purpose solution on many trips with no problem. I had a bad experience returning from the Lihue Airport in Kauai on December 8th.
The inspector said that TSA exemptions apply to "saline" solution and stated that my multi-purpose solution is not saline. She challenged me to show her where on the bottle it indicated that it was saline solution.
I doubt that many contact wearers still use saline, since this requires heating the contacts for disinfection. Most saline products have evolved over the years into multi-purpose solutions.
I checked the Alcon website and it indicated that multi-purpose products are allowed.
To be safe for my next trip, I purchased a 2 oz bottle of Bausch & Lomb solution. I sent an inquiry to Alcon, and they indicated that they are considering a 3 oz size.

I fly frequently and always carry a 4 ounce bottle of saline solution. I always seperate it out of the rest of my carryon luggage.I have had screeners pick it up and look at it and then replace it with no comment. And the TSA guidelines allow you to carry more than the 3 ounce liquid rule of saline solution.

Those kind of stories really get me steamed! I have a small bottle of saline solution which I have been using for years, I just refill it with multi purpose solution.
Two months ago we were going thru security at Fort Myers Airport. I use a travel jewelery box, which is made of leather and folds on to itself and buckles closed. I have used this to travel everywhere in every airport thru all kinds of security and never had a problem. The TSA agents at Ft Myers are very old, cranky and very nasty....this old man insisted on opening the box..I told him to be careful as the jewelery will fall out if not open properly. As I was trying to show him he opened it the wrong way and all my jewelery fell out. He told me to not use the box again. Due to his boredom/stupidity/and down right nasty attitude I lost a beautiful amber and diamond ring, which I did not notice missing until I got home and it was too late.

This is an issue I have struggled with for over a year. I often FedEx these items to my first destination as a precaution, as some destinations do not carry the products my doctor recommends.
Domestically, I carry 4 oz contact lense solution bottles in a plastic bag, separate from the 3 oz carry-on assortment. Just before sending items through the
X-Ray, I "declare" these special-size items to the security person. I have never had a problem with this in the USA. In fact, I have been thanked by TSA personnel for knowing the rules about declaring contact lense solutions in sizes larger than 3 oz.
International travel is a whole different ballgame. I have had a number of bad experiences abroad, thinking that their rules would be the same. When in doubt, FedEx.
