Overview

PSI India Private Limited's (IPL) mission is to provide consumers with contraceptives and healthcare products that are safe, effective and affordable, allowing them to lead healthier and more productive lives. PSI IPL is a social enterprise that seeks "profit for purpose," generating revenue that it invests back into the business to become self-sustaining over time. Launched in 2015, PSI IPL currently works across several Indian states and provides a robust product basket including oral contraception, emergency contraception, medication abortion kits, condoms and oral rehydration salts.

Why Social Enterprise?

As India becomes a middle-income country, consumers' health needs remain the same while their willingness and ability to pay for quality products and services rises. Donor expectations shift in tandem to focus on sustainability. A social enterprise approach in India can support positive social outcomes more sustainably than grants alone and provides an opportunity to invest in relationships that stimulate the market to achieve health impact at scale while allowing government and donor subsidy to be more effectively targeted.
